04.11.2024 09:25

The main purpose of the Department of Philosophy is to introduce and teach basic philosophical disciplines such as metaphysics, ethics, logic, political philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, philosophy of religion and epistemology. The aim at the end of this education is to provide students with philosophical competence and the ability to evaluate contemporary problems. Graduates of the Department of Philosophy can be employed as philosophy teachers within the Ministry of National Education, as well as teaching in private schools. They can work in the media sector, in areas related to culture and art, and as faculty members at universities.

As humans, we constantly exceed our limits and create opportunities through existential possibilities. The activities that humanity has produced so far, such as science, art, technology, etc., can be evaluated as an indicator of this. However, in order to overcome our current situation and reach the future, we need to expand our intellectual horizons, find creative solutions, and approach these events holistically and critically. Philosophy education provides people with these abilities with all the disciplines it possesses. In addition, thanks to philosophical thinking, that is, a critical, holistic and questioning way of thinking, people can become more competent in interpreting the past, correctly understanding the present and predicting the future.

In addition to these important educational gains, our students also have the opportunity to compare philosophical ideas across cultures throughout their undergraduate education. By becoming aware of the common concerns in different philosophical views expressed throughout the history of philosophy, they can create a tool that can be useful for their own culture. Thanks to ethics courses, one of the basic disciplines of philosophy, they can see how much attention is required to live together within the framework of universal human values.

Our expectation from our students is that they gain practices that will improve both themselves and the society they live in during their undergraduate education.
